I Got Involved in Scouting Because:

Boy Scouts is a fantastic program to help our youth turn into great young men!

Scouting Prepared Me For Life By:

As a young boy, Scouting taught me skills that I utilize almost every day in both business and personal trips. It not just about the outdoors and surviving a terrible situation. It's also about how you live day to day and hold yourself to a fine tuned moral compass in everything you do in life.

My Most Memorable Scouting Moment:

My son and I still talk about this often as it was the full Scouting experience packed into one great trip. The troop organized a backpacking hike camp over the summer up in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. This was the first backpacking trip for my son so I was excited for him as a leader and as a father. The hike up the trail was beautiful and we camp in spots that hand some amazing views up on the side of the hill. Just down from our camping we all had a blast fishing and sliding on this huge boulder. But, soon we started to run low on water which made it time to break out the water filter. I sat down put the filter together and all the young boys gathered around watching and seeing that I dropped the intake line down into the river. These boys watched the whole process with very curious intensity. As soon as my bottle was filled one of the boys spoke up and asked, "Can you drink that and is it safe." I tell them, "Sure, it is good. Just watch." So, I take a big gulp of the water and all these boys were waiting to see me double over and yack. After about 30 seconds or so the brave Scout steps forward and says, "Let me try." So, we filtered some more water while they all waited for me to fall over dead then the brave scout took the drink and said, "This tastes AWESOME!" From that point to the night fall those boys were filtering water and making plans how they could pack it down to Denver and sell it!

But the trip story doesn't end there. That night, we hiked to "City Lights Ridge" where the boys sang Scouting songs and hand great conversations about Duck Dynasty all while sitting up on the highest point in the area looking down at the city lights under a full moon.

To me, you can't get much better than that. Summer camp at Dietler makes a great runner up but seeing those boys have such a great time and take a huge leap of faith with their first experience of wilderness water filtering was just plain awesome!
