I Got Involved in Scouting Because:
When I was 8 yrs old and in 2nd grade, someone gave a presentation to the boys about Cub Scouts. I went home and told my parents I wanted to join. My parents were very supportive and ended up being leaders in my pack and troop. I loved Scouting from day one and never looked back.
Scouting Prepared Me For Life By:
Scouting did 3 things for me. It gave me confidence that I could do anything I tried. It taught me self-reliance. And Scouting taught me the value of working as a team. I have used these lessons all my life, both personally and in my profession.
My Most Memorable Scouting Moment:
In 1981 I took over as SM of Troop 300, NCAC. The troop was all black kids from the inner city projects. I took them camping the first month that we restarted the troop (October) and it snowed. We never looked back. We went to summer camp every year, camped every month year around, and participated in Scout Shows and other competitions. I have a photo when our guys won an award for the most creative Scout Show display. These guys were great and could not have been more active, or had more fun!
A second story: I was on top of Baldy Mountain at Philmont in July 1969 when the first moon landing took place; we listened to the news on a transistor radio.
