Merit Badge CounselorsEvery boy needs to complete 21 Merit Badges, including 12 that are required for the rank of eagle. With over 120 different Merit Badges offered by the BSA, almost any adult can become a Merit Badge Counselor. Please remember if you are a new Merit Badge Counselor you must submit an Adult application along with your Merit Badge application. For a full list of Valley Merit Badge Counselors or any questions about Merit Badges please contact Chris Seymour, the Valley District Advancement Chair. Please remember that Merit Badge Counselors could and should be experts in the field, a scout should feel empowered enough to ask his family Veterinarian, Dentist, Doctor... to be a merit badge counselor. That person would just need to fill out both the adult leader application and the merit badge counselor applicaiton. The idea behind the merit badge program is to make sure the Scout is truly learning about what a career in that field might look like. With that it is ideal that a Scout can see what a place or work would look like. For example, meeting with a judge for the law merit badge. The community is a resource for our scouts.
