Update on Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch 6/20/2013:
One week ago today Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch was evacuated due to the Black Forrest Wild Fire. Thanks to efforts of local firefighters and emergency personal the Black Forrest Fire is 85% contained and Peaceful Valley was able to resume operations in a safe and timely manner. Now that the fire danger has diminished and operations have resumed the camp staff has shifted their focus to ensure all evacuated troops will receive merit badge paperwork, camp patches and other important camp information in a timely manner. In addition, the Peaceful Valley Staff is developing a plan for possible merit badge make up opportunities during the 2013 camp season. Please watch for more details in the coming days. Finally, if you troop has picked up extra personal gear or is still missing personal gear please contact Mary Ann Romero at 720-266-2111 so we can log those items. Thank you again to the outstanding efforts of the Peaceful Valley Scouts, Scouters and Staff for ensuring that everyone was safe during this event.
Update on Status of Retrieving Equipment and Gear 6/19/2013:
The National Western Complex is nearly empty and today at noon, June 19th, the remaining gear will be moved to the Denver Area Council office and remain there until all is claimed. We understand that this process was not perfect, but we went with the best plan for the little time we had and we thank you for understanding.
Update on Opening of Peaceful Valley 6/15/2013 1:30pm:
We have received confirmation from Elbert County to open Peaceful Valley on Monday, June 17th with check-in beginning at 9am and lunch provided at noon. An updated schedule will be provided to troops upon check-in. This includes programs for camps Cris Dobbins and Cortlandt Dietler. Magness Adventure Camp will open for session two for June 20-22. We are looking forward to providing everyone with the same superior camp experience this summer. Thank you everyone for your patience as ensuring the safety of our Scouts is always top priority!
Update on Status of Retrieving Equipment and Gear 6/14/2013 2:30pm:
Large Equipment Pick Up –
Unit leaders that were evacuated from Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch may return to the camp today, June 14 from 3pm to 8pm or on Saturday, June 15 from 9am to 5pm to retrieve larger items including personal tents, tables, cots, sleeping pads, air mattresses, chairs, etc. Only adults are currently allowed to enter the property to retrieve equipment. There are currently four trailers located at the Elbert County Fairgrounds on the north side of the agricultural building that may be picked up anytime but as soon as possible. No other items are available for pick up at the Elbert County Fairgrounds and entry to the building will not be allowed.
Gear and Personal Item Pick Up –
We want to thank US Food Service for donating a truck and the National Western Stock Show Complex for providing space to pick up gear and personal items. Due to the Elbert County Sheriff mandated evacuation and short window of time approved to enter PV, senior camp staff only were able to gather gear and personal items and group them together by campsite. We commend the PV Camp Staff for their heroic action as the pending Black Forest Fire was only 6 miles away from the Magness Adventure Camp side. We are thankful the wind changed direction and camp is safe. The space provided by the National Western Stock Show Complex allows us the opportunity to layout all items by campsite in an organized fashion. Unit leaders and Scouts will be able to retrieve collected gear and personal items at the National Western Stock Show Complex at the dates and times listed below located at 47th and Humboldt. Please enter through Gate 1, head to Stadium Hall 2 and you will be able to drive in through the roll up door #15 so you can load your gear directly into your vehicle.
Available Dates & Times for Pick Up at the National Western Stock Show Complex:
Sunday, June 16 through Saturday, June 22 during the times of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Parents of Counselors in Training (CIT's) should plan to arrive at the fairgrounds between 6pm - 7pm to pick up their child. All PV staff will be released to go home later this evening with the exception of senior management positions. Most out of state troops are leaving for home with the exception of 125 unit leaders and their Scouts. After 6pm they will be under the care of the Red Cross and making arrangements to travel home in the morning. The emergency phone line at the fairgrounds will be manned up until 6pm tonight for more information - 303-621-3152. Peaceful Valley is still under a mandatory evacuation zone and we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are in close contact with Elbert County officials to ensure the safety of PV and are developing a plan to retrieve gear as soon as safely possible. Unit leaders and Scouts should not attempt to go to PV and retrieve gear themselves. Further updates will be provided around picking up gear at an alternate location if possible. We still have approximately 300 out-of-state Scouts being sheltered at the Elbert County Fairgrounds. PV staff is providing merit badge programming for them on site and meals are being provided by our camp food vendor Chartwells in conjunction with the Red Cross. We will continue to update everyone as new information is made available.

Update 6/12/2013 11:30am:
Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch has been required to evacuate per the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management due to the Black Forest Fire. Please note that we were put on a pre-evacuation notice and camp is not in any eminent danger but due to the size of Peaceful Valley and the number of kids on the property the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management is taking precautionary measures and evacuating the camp early.
Scouts will be taken on school buses to the Elbert County Fairgrounds located at 95 Ute Ave., Kiowa, CO 80117. Emergency procedures are being followed. Once at the Elbert County Fairgrounds unit leaders will call all parents of their troop to provide further updates. Please note that evacuation will take between 2-4 hours. Please do not call the camp as we need to keep the phone line open for emergency communication.
We will continue to provide updates as we receive them...
