Bear Scout Day at Parker Police Department

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, the Parker Police Department will host a program  for Bear level Cub Scouts titled “Law Enforcement is a Big Job”. This program will be held from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., at the Parker Police Department, 18600 E. Lincoln Meadows Parkway, Parker, CO. This program will help to cover the Cub Scout requirements for the following four sections:

Crime Prevention

We will discuss various aspects of crime prevention and how to handle emergencies. We will also discuss how to keep yourself and your family safe, how to report crimes, and how to help the police department.

Fingerprinting and Evidence

We will show how fingerprints are taken, and hand out sheets so that each scout can do their own prints. A brief history of fingerprinting will be given, as well as information on the types of fingerprints and how they are classified.  We will discuss how fingerprints are used. We will also discuss ways police gather evidence, show how to do a casting of a footprint or tire track and  how fingerprints are lifted off of various items. We will talk about what evidence is, where evidence can be found, and what items can be evidence.

Emergency Preparedness

Learn how to prepare yourself and your family for emergency situations. We will learn how to make a 72-hour preparedness kit for your family and pets, and how to put together a communication plan for your family.

Police officer questions and police car

A police car will be available for the Scouts to look at with, and an officer available to answer questions.

Each section of the training will be approximately 25 minutes, and the Scout packs/dens will rotate through each of the four sections.

We will be hosting a large number of Scouts at this presentation. In order to allow the maximum number of Scouts to take advantage of this training, we ask that only Scouts and leaders attend.

Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required. Scout groups and leaders must check in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the program.

For further information, please contact Holly Reno (303.805.6589) or Officer Dawn Cashman (303.805.6527) at the Parker Police Department.

Walk-ins will most likely not be accepted due to high registration numbers.
