The Powder Horn course is designed to expose the Venturing leader and Scouter to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful high adventure program. It also familiarizes the Advisor with the Ranger program so that he or she can help the Venturer to meet the requirements of the Ranger Award.
The Powder Horn course is designed to help Venturing Leaders and other adults involved in the unit, to safely conduct activities of a fun and challenging nature. It provides an introduction to the resources needed to successfully lead their Venturers through a program of outdoor adventure. This course is based upon the Ranger requirements giving participants an exposure to some outdoor/high adventure activities and not a certification event.
This course is not a total training program, which enables the Venturing or Boy Scouting unit leader to be an expert or even self-sufficient in any aspect of outdoor skills. The adult leader will most likely still need knowledgeable, trained and certified individuals (consultants) to help provide a safe and correct outdoor/high adventure program.
The first weekend will be held at Peaceful Valley in Elber County and Weekend two is held at Camp Tahosa.
